Professor, Internal Medicine, College of MedicineFaculty AffiliateDr. Otterson is dedicated to advancing the care of patients with thoracic malignancies by helping to develop novel therapeutic approaches to these diseases. These approaches range from novel combinations of conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy to targeted agents, applied to patients with early stage or advanced disease. To foster clinical research and patient care, he has worked hard to develop a true multi-disciplinary team in thoracic oncology that includes medical oncologists, thoracic surgeons, radiation oncologists, pulmonologists, pathologists, radiologists, nurses, pharmacists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. He also maintains a laboratory/translational research program that is focused on epigenetic changes in thoracic malignancies, specifically DNA methylation and post-translational histone (and other protein) changes such as methylation and acetylation.
