Speakers
Dr. Brian Berkey
Dr. Berkey is an Associate Professor of Legal Studies & Business Ethics at the University of Pennsylvania. He works in moral and political philosophy (including business ethics and environmental ethics). He has written on issues such as the demandingness of morality, individual and corporate obligations of justice, ethical issues arising with regard to climate change, exploitation, effective altruism, animal ethics, collective obligations, ethical consumerism, and the relationship between ideal and non-ideal theory.
Dr. Jessica Flanigan
Dr. Jessica Flanigan is the Richard L. Morrill Chair in Ethics and Democratic Values at the University of Richmond, where she teaches Leadership Ethics, Ethical Decision Making in Healthcare, and Critical Thinking. Her research addresses the ethics of public policy, medicine, and business. Dr. Flanigan has written on many issues in these areas including sweatshop regulation, workers' choice, self-ownership, economic justice, wealth distribution, and sex work.
Moderators
Shilpa Gopal
Shilpa studies Philosophy, Politics, and Economics with minors in Linguistics and Law & Public Policy. On campus, Shilpa is a University Ambassador, working within Undergraduate Admissions. Outside of the classroom, she serves as Vice President for Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc., and as President for Khabar OSU, a student-run newsletter. Additionally, Shilpa is a Judicial Panel Clerk for the Undergraduate Student Government. She is passionate about legal advocacy for victims' rights and recently wrapped up her work as an Intake Specialist with the Chandra Law Firm.
Gwenyth King
Gwenyth is an Honors pre-law student, double-majoring in Political Science and Sociology, with a minor in Studio Art. She is a Morrill Excellence Scholar and an Advocate for Community and Education (ACES) Scholar. She works as an undergraduate research assistant for a project with the goal of examining the evolution of campus justice systems over the past fifty years, with a focus on the regulation of student behavior, speech, press, and protest. Gwenyth has also been a member of TEDxOhioStateUniversity's Content Committee for two years as a speaker coach and has coached three TEDx talks.
