Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY MORITZ COLLEGE OF LAW PRESENTS

The Annual Schwartz Lecture on Dispute Resolution

"The Next Generation’s Voice: Conflict and Democracy"

Lisa Blomgren Amsler

Professor and Keller-Runden Professor of Public Service

Indiana University Bloomington School of Public and Environmental Affairs

Commentators decry the decline in our democratic institutions as members of our society go online and form fewer connections in the real world. Yet these critiques fail to consider the Next Generation that has no memories of the “way things were” or, worse, they paint a battle scene between Baby Boomers and Millennials. Professor Blomgren Amsler explores this Next Generation and the factors and forces that shape how they view, relate to, and participate in democracy, whether the seeds of institutional change are there, and, if so, what forms they may take.

The Schwartz Lecture on Dispute Resolution was established in 1992 as a result of the generosity of the late Stanley Schwartz Jr. ’47 and the Schwartz family. Each lecture is published in the Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution, in keeping with Schwartz’s interest in the promotion of scholarly publication in the area of dispute resolution.
