Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Animal Research: from division to dialogue

Pomerene Hall 150

Animal experimentation remains one of the most polarizing issues in biomedical ethics. On one side of a seemingly unbridgeable divide are researchers driven by a genuine desire for knowledge and better treatments for devastating diseases; on the other side, we find activists who are just as genuine in their advocacy for the rights of the animals who often suffer and die during the course of such research. The effect of this polarization is that people from both sides live in fear, caricature one another’s motivations, suffer in silence, and miss out on opportunities for collaboration that would authentically reflect the values of both groups. In this talk, Madeline Krasno (Executive Director of Justify), will identify factors that have kept us stuck in a place of division about this topic and argue for dialogue grounded in respect and compassion instead.

This event is co-sponsored by Allied Scholars for Animal Protection, the PPE Society, and CEHV.
