I was formally trained in the traditional of analytic philosophy of language. Now I do event coordination, purchasing, and other administrative work for a university-wide ethics center. It probably sounds hokey, but I am passionate about making sure that things are organized - whether that's a philosophical argument or the structure of paper... or a budget proposal, conference schedule, guest's travel itinerary, or a university center's overall operations.
I am also a downshifter. I am voluntarily "underemployed" because there is much that I enjoy in life outside of the pursuit of career advancement and material gain.
Outside of my work for CEHV, I try to be active in conservation-related causes, especially on behalf of birds, including recent volunteer work with the Bird City Network and World Migratory Bird Day as a virtual assistant and Ohio Lights Out as a collision monitor. I also volunteer with Quiet Parks International, and I have served previous stints as a board member of various other conservation-related organizations, including the Rewilding Institute, Columbus Audubon, and DarkSky International's Ohio chapter. Prior to all that, I spent several years on the Executive Committee of the Basic Income Earth Network and was the lead writer for Basic Income News.
Lately, I have been gradually resuming philosophy-influenced writing and research adjacent to my interests in conservation and birds. This year (2026), I have written several columns for Rewilding Earth, the blog of the Rewilding Institute, and I have published a new article in The Ecological Citizen, "Bird-safe glass as a step toward species-inclusive design." I have also contributed to guest blog post to the BirdEyes newsroom. One of my current projects is an invited book chapter on intrinsic value and conservation practice.
Aside from all that, I am a car-free active transportation enthusiast.
