CEHV Explores Shared Values Through ETHOS Fellows Program

ETHOS Fellows Program

Ohio State's Shared Values remain key components of who we are as a university community. They have become deeply integrated into our formal and informal practices--finding their way into important HR functions like hiring and behind-the-scenes navigations of interpersonal conflicts. They are also aspirational, as they push us to diagnose where we are falling short and how we ought to improve. And crucially, they emerged from a genuinely community-driven process that involved a 2019 survey of all faculty, staff, and students, a comprehensive review of Unit and College Values, a Steering Committee that represented a wide variety of colleges and units, and countless meetings with stakeholder groups beyond the Steering Committee.

CEHV is proud to play a key role in the continued exploration of these Shared Values through our ETHOS Fellows Program: a 6-session certificate program that introduces faculty, staff, and graduate students to Ohio State's Shared Values, facilitates discussions of the values and their application in fellows' work, and assists participants in the development of values-based events or projects in their home units. Since its inception, the program has included 122 fellows from dozens of units and all of the OSU campuses. This semester's program included 10 participants from 7 academic departments across 4 colleges, as well as 3 non-college units. As usual, this was an inspiring gathering of thoughtful members of our Ohio State community who celebrated what our community is doing well while challenging us to always do better. We look forward to hearing about their projects.

Stay tuned for an announcement about how to apply for the next ETHOS Fellows cohort towards the start of Autumn 2025.
