Students win CEHV-sponsored Denman Research Forum Awards in Ethics and Civil Discourse

Student Denman Award Winners with CEHV's Kathryn Joyce

CEHV was pleased to honor exceptional undergraduate research this month by offering two awards at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum:

 

Center for Ethics and Human Values Award

This award recognizes exemplary undergraduate research in moral and political philosophy or on applied ethical questions underlying contentious social issues and policies. 

Co-winners:

  • Madison Meixner (Political Science), “An Exploration of the Implementation of Political Gender Quotas and Public Opinion: A Case Study of Sierra Leone”
  • Averi Wolf (Interior Design), “Woven Roots – A Holistic Women’s Wellness Center”

 

Civil Discourse for Citizenship Award

This award recognizes exemplary undergraduate research on the theoretical or practical challenges facing democracies defined by ethical and political disagreement. 

Winner:

  • Morgan Vereb (Interior Design), “Channels of Knowledge: The Future of Community Library Design”
     

Dr. Kathryn Joyce, CEHV's Civil Discourse Program Director, presented the awards, which include a $500 prize. Congratulations to these outstanding students for their excellent projects advancing thoughtful reflection on challenging ethical issues and the value of civil discourse!
