CEHV’s Jamie Herman Accepts Position as Associate Director of Educational and Professional Initiatives at the Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University

Please join us in congratulating CEHV Civil Discourse Graduate Research Assistant Jamie Herman for being hired into the role of Associate Director of Educational and Professional Initiatives at the Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University. Jamie will join the institute's leadership to mediate between students and a variety of community partners for ongoing ethics programming in local schools and for local teachers. She will also help the institute build a new professional ethics initiative that will offer programming for state and local organizations and companies.
Jamie's time with CEHV began in 2022 when she attended a COMPAS conference about education and asked questions that were so insightful that we knew we needed to work with her. She soon joined us and assisted in the creation and implementation of two new projects: a Philosophy for Children outreach project in partnership with Columbus Gifted Academy and a bi-weekly dialogue series about living in dorms, called Dorm Dialogues, in partnership with Residence Life. Beyond her participation in the projects as a highly skilled dialogue facilitator, Jamie played a crucial role in shaping the direction of the projects, finding solutions in response to challenging situations, and mentoring undergraduate students training to become facilitators themselves. She has also assisted CEHV's efforts involving our 4Cs framework by running 4Cs workshops for undergraduate students and recently co-authoring a 3rd-5th grade 4Cs Curriculum. Beyond her contributions to these projects, Jamie has been a wonderful collaborator behind the scenes, helping ensure that our events run smoothly, publishing our newsletter, and keeping our website up to date.
Jamie is currently finishing her PhD in Philosophy and History of Education under the supervision of Winston Thompson and Bryan Warnick, and her research centers on competing aims of higher education and the ethical considerations that arise when those aims conflict. We wish her the best of luck in her upcoming dissertation defense and in her new position. The Prindle Institute is lucky to have her join them.
Jamie joins other CEHV graduate students in recent years who have gone on to permanent positions in academia, including Ali Kaveh Aenehzodaee (Harper College), Christa Johnson (Ohio State), Aly McCarthy (Vanderbilt), and Lavender McKittrick-Sweitzer (Butler). We are proud knowing that they all carry forward the spirit of engaged public philosophy fostered by CEHV.
